Graphology (Behavorial Profiling)

Q: What is behavioral profiling?

A: Behavioral Profiling is the scientific study of penmanship as a projection of personality traits. It is recognized as a branch of applied psychology and originated in Europe over a century ago.

Q: How does The Law view it?

A: In 1973, the Supreme Court held in “U.S. vs. Dionisio” that the physical characters of a person’s voice, gestures, penmanship, and face, being constantly exposed to the public view, are not within the protection of the Fourth Amendment.

Since 1977, eight states have set a legal precedent for the acceptance of Behavioral Profiling professionals as expert witnesses. These states are: Illinois, Kentucky, New Mexico, Wyoming, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Idaho and Colorado.

Q: Who uses it?

A: Over 3,000 firms in the U.S. use Behavioral Profiling including Ford, GE, Mutual of Omaha, H&R Block, and Renault (USA). In Europe, 85% of the business community use Behavioral Profiling to screen personnel. It is also used by the FBI, private detectives, and attorneys who are involved in jury selection.

Q: What are the benefits?

A: It saves time and money. Statistical research shows that companies using Behavioral Profiling save over $50,000 per every 10 employees hired by evaluating the personality traits of potential candidates. Traditional testing methods can cost about $1,000 per test vs. $250 per Behavioral Profiling.

Q: Does it comply with EEOC Standards?

A: Yes. Behavioral Profiling is nondiscriminatory as it does not reveal the age, sex or race of an individual.
